MOSCOW, February 27 Lithuania tightens controls on imported goods into the country, as well as grain transiting through the Klaipeda port from Russia and Belarus, the Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture reported on its website.
«»Reacting to the situation in the region, the Ministry of Agriculture is taking measures to tighten control over grain imported from Russia and other high-risk countries. Tougher measures will apply both to products imported into Lithuania and exported in transit through the port of Klaipeda» , the ministry said in a statement.
It is noted that the measures concern grain crops and products made from them, in particular, cereals, flour, bran from Russia, Belarus, Transnistria, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
«Each wagon or vehicle with imported products will be checked. Products will be checked for the presence of residues of pesticides, mycotoxins, metals (lead, cadmium), and tests will be carried out to determine the origin of the products,» the ministry said .
Last week, the parliament of neighboring Latvia banned the import of agricultural products from Russia and Belarus until July 1, 2025.
