The French have declassified the serial Renault 5 hatchback and named its starting price

The new electric car was presented at the Geneva Motor Show. The Five will go on sale on the European market later this year.

The French company presented a prototype of a hatchback with a revived name — Renault 5 — in 2021. The production of the model's predecessor was launched from 1972 to 1996. The brand shared teasers of the serial new product at the end of last fall, and now Renault has completely declassified the production version of its “five”, which received the addition of E-Tech to the name.

During the presentation, the manufacturer named the starting price tag of the “five”: in the old-world market, a basic five-door can be will be purchased for approximately 25,000 euros (equivalent to approximately 2.51 million rubles at the current exchange rate). The indicated price puts the new product among the most affordable electric vehicles in Europe.

The appearance of the show car also indicated that the new Renault 5 E-Tech would be in some way a “reincarnation” of the 1972 original. As we can see, the design of the production version of the city car has remained virtually unchanged when compared with the concept in terms of retro style. The length of the “electric hatch” is 3.92 meters, width – 1.77 meters, height – 1.5 meters, and the distance between the axles is 2.54 meters.

The new “five” has the same silhouette and many details are similar. The production version received a digital display integrated into the hood with a traction battery charge indicator: when the battery is fully charged, the display displays the number 5. The model was equipped with LED headlights with a small French flag and “frames” of running lights, as well as vertical rear lights that are interconnected wide stripe: here in the center is the brand name, and on the side is the model index.

On the production model, the hatch behind which the charging port is hidden is located on the left front fender. The hatchback also received extended front and rear wheel arches, a body kit made of glossy black plastic along the perimeter of the body, a similar-colored roof and traditional exterior mirror housings, emphasized by contrasting red lines. There is a “shark fin” antenna on the roof, the front door handles are normal, and the rear door handles are located in the glass part.

The interior of the Renault 5 E-Tech is also decorated in a retro style, but at the same time it is very modern. In the center of the front panel there is a touch screen of the infotainment system, its diagonal is 10.1 inches, in front of the driver there is a 10-inch virtual instrument panel. Under the central vents you can see a row of physical buttons; below there is a niche for wireless charging of smartphones. The interior has a combined finish with contrasting stitching. The trunk volume of the “baby” is 326 liters.

As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, the Ampere division was responsible for the implementation of the project. The Renault 5 E-Tech is based on the AmpR Small platform, which is a modernized version of the CMF-B “trolley” (the current Clio and Captur are based on it). The model received a rear multi-link suspension. It is offered with a single electric motor, which can be had in three power options — 95, 122 and 150 hp. » />

For the model of the French brand, two traction batteries are available to choose from — with a capacity of either 40 or 52 kWh. It is known that the hatchback with the second battery option has a maximum range of 400 km on a single charge (calculated using the WLTP cycle). Note that with a less capacious battery the weight of the car is 1372 kg, with the second option – 1449 kg.

< p>The new “green” hatchback Renault 5 E-Tech will go on sale in the European market later this year. The list of competitors includes both current and future models: Volkswagen ID.2, Peugeot e-208, Citroen e-C3, Mini Cooper Electric, as well as Fiat 500e.
