MOSCOW, February 28. President Vladimir Putin's statement on energy cooperation with Ankara is of great importance for Russian-Turkish relations, said Aydinlik economic commentator Serhat Latifoglu.
Previously, Putin, in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, said that he considers Turkey «the most reliable partner» in the energy sector.
“
"It is extremely important that Putin expresses confidence. <…> These are supportive and encouraging statements for Turkey,” the economist noted.
In his opinion, trade and financial relations between Russia and Turkey have “colossal potential”: their development will lead to significant growth of the Turkish economy.
“Putin gave a historical definition, calling Turkey the most “reliable partner”. This, of course, says a lot primarily for Turkey, as well as for Turkish-Russian relations,” Latifoglu believes.
In October 2022, President Vladimir Putin put forward the idea of moving the lost volume of Russian gas transit to the Black Sea region. According to him, it is possible to create a gas hub in Turkey, which would become a platform for supplies to other countries, primarily to Europe, as well as for determining gas prices.
In November last year, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said that Ankara is negotiating with Gazprom to bring the Turkish gas trading platform to the international level. According to him, the republic expects to be able to complete work on creating an electronic platform for gas trading in 2024.
