MOSCOW, February 28 Weekly inflation in Russia from February 20 to 26 accelerated to 0.13% from 0.11% a week earlier, since the beginning of the year consumer prices rose by 1.42%, Rosstat reported on Wednesday.
“For the period from February 20 to February 26, 2024, the consumer price index, according to Rosstat, amounted to 100.13%, from the beginning of February — 100.56%, from the beginning of the year — 101.42%,” the materials say.
According to Rosstat, the growth in prices for fruits and vegetables slowed down and averaged 0.6% after 1.4% in the last reporting week. Including cabbage prices increased by 2.4%, tomatoes — by 2.2%, beets — by 1.7%, carrots — by 1.6%, bananas — by 0.9%, onions — by 0.8% , apples — by 0.3%. Prices for cucumbers and potatoes decreased by 1% and 0.4%, respectively.
During the reporting week, Rosstat recorded an increase in prices for a number of food products, in particular, for beef — by 0.6%, lamb and salt — by 0.5%; boiled sausages, canned fruit and berries for baby food, sugar — by 0.4%; sausages, small sausages, semi-smoked and boiled-smoked sausages, butter, pasta — by 0.3%. Frozen fish, milk, canned vegetables and dry milk formulas for baby food, flour and noodles increased in price by 0.2%; margarine, cheeses, buckwheat and bread — by 0.1%.
Tea prices decreased — by 0.4%; eggs and rice — by 0.2%; chicken, canned meat for baby food and cookies — by 0.1%.
As follows from the publication of Rosstat, among non-food essential goods, diapers for newborns and toothpastes increased in price — by 0.4%, toilet paper — by 0.2%, sanitary pads, matches and dry pet food — by 0.1% . Baby diapers, toothbrushes and washing powders fell in price by 0.1%.
Household and electrical appliances fell in price in the week from February 20 to 26: smartphones — by 1.1%, electric vacuum cleaners — by 0.4%, TVs — by 0.2%. The cost of both a new domestic car and a foreign one has not changed.
During the reporting period, Rosstat also recorded an increase in prices for a number of medicines, observed in weekly dynamics. In particular, analgin and multivitamins increased in price by 0.5%; cough medicine «Rengalin» and allohol — by 0.4%; Corvalol, antiviral drug «Ergoferon» and ointment «Levomekol» — by 0.3%, combined analgesics — by 0.1%. Prices for validol decreased by 0.4%.
The growth in the cost of air travel in economy class accelerated to 3.2% from 0.1%.
