
MOSCOW, February 28. Unemployment in Russia dropped to 2.9% in January, returning to a historical low, according to Rosstat data.
«The unemployment rate for the population aged 15 years and older in January 2024 was 2.9% ( without excluding the seasonal factor),” says the department’s report.
Unemployment in Russia in October and November 2023 was at a historical low of 2 ,9%. In December it was 3%.
“In January 2024, 2.1 million people aged 15 years and older were classified as unemployed (in accordance with the methodology of the International Labor Organization),” reports Rosstat.
If a month earlier, the total number of unemployed people in the country was 2.289 million people , then in January it dropped to 2.15 million people (less than in October and November).
As Rosstat notes with reference to Rostrud data, by the end of January 2024, 0.5 million unemployed citizens were registered with the employment service, of these, 0.4 million people had unemployed status, including 0.3 million people receiving unemployment benefits.
Rosstat, when studying employment and unemployment, uses the methodology of the International Labor Organization, according to which the unemployed are those who moment of research simultaneously needed work, was looking for it and was ready to start it. The number of workers in Russia aged 15 years and older, according to Rosstat, amounted to 75.4 million people in January 2023.
