TOKYO, 1 MarJapan, as part of a new sanctions package, has tightened restrictions on the import of Russian diamonds for non-industrial use, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Measures are being introduced to ban the import of non-industrial diamonds originating from the Russian Federation (including those processed outside the Russian Federation),” the Japanese department’s document notes.
From March 1, the US ban on the import of unsorted diamonds and diamond jewelry from Russia, as well as non-industrial diamonds from Russia weighing from 1 carat. Also, from March 1, the G7 countries will begin introducing phased restrictions on the import of Russian diamonds processed in third countries.
