MOSCOW, March 3 2006 Olympic champion in dancing ice Roman Kostomarov, who suffered a serious illness, got on a snowboard for the first time after amputation surgery.
Kostomarov was admitted to intensive care with pneumonia on January 10, 2023 and spent 175 days in the clinic. Due to the necrosis that developed, he underwent several amputations of his arms and legs. Later, he began to publish videos of training after prosthetics.
«»Hurray… I'm on a snowboard. It wasn't easy, but I did it. And you will succeed, good luck to everyone,» Kostomarov wrote in his Telegram channel, attaching a video of himself riding snowboarding.
On December 17, Kostomarov went out on ice in public for the first time on skates as part of a show dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Ilya Averbukh; he took part in a joint performance with his wife Oksana Domnina. Later, Kostomarov took to the ice with Tatyana Navka, with whom he won Olympic gold in Turin 2006. The skaters performed the «Carmen» program — with this free dance they won the Games in Italy.
