Roskomnadzor demanded that 34 sites remove content about VPN services

️In the first four days of the month, Roskomnadzor demanded that 34 website owners remove information that “advertises or popularizes means of bypassing blocking access to illegal content.” RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the regulator.

“Resource owners promptly removed prohibited materials from 28 Internet pages. For failure to comply with the department’s requirements and failure to remove materials on this topic, Roskomnadzor blocked 6 pages,” Roskomnadzor claims.

Last fall, the regulator decided to prohibit the publication of information about bypassing blocking from March 1, 2024 to September 1, 2029. In particular, we are talking about publications that talk about ways and methods of gaining access to blocked addresses, and a description of actions to bypass blocking is presented.

Over the past few years, Roskomnadzor has blocked more than a dozen VPN services, including Cloudflare WARP, Nord VPN, RedShield VPN, Opera VPN and others. Last spring, the regulator began banning entire protocols for VPN use. Experts with whom Mediazona spoke believe that it will be increasingly difficult to bypass blockings.
