BUDAPEST, 6 March European taxpayers have the right know how and what their money sent to Ukraine was spent on, said Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó.
“With regard to EU funds sent to Ukraine, I believe that every European taxpayer has the right to know where the money of European taxpayers ended up and what it was used for,” Szijjarto said at a press conference broadcast on social networks.
He noted that every time the EU decides to provide any financial support to Ukraine, Hungary has always emphasized that “we have the right to know how and for what the funds previously sent to Ukraine were spent.”
According to him, this will be a “very important criterion” in the future adoption of similar decisions in the EU.
Previously, Hungary blocked the allocation of additional money to Ukraine from the EU budget due to the lack of a report on the 80 billion euros previously transferred to Ukraine by European taxpayers.
