About 184.2 thousand cars were sold on the Russian market of new passenger cars in the first two months of this year. This result is almost 82% more than in January-February 2023.
According to the latest report from the Autostat agency, in February 2024, a total of 103,954 new passenger cars were sold in the Russian Federation, which is 85.1% more than in the same month last year. It should be noted that analysts use information about the state registration of new cars in the country to create a report, which allows them to take into account in the final statistics not only those copies that were officially sold by dealers, but also those that were imported into the Russian Federation under the parallel import scheme legalized in 2022.

The leader among brands remains the same; the share of the Russian Lada brand in the local market is 27.6%, which is slightly less than in January 2024. For comparison, in February last year this share was noticeably higher – 38.4%. A couple of best-selling Ladas take first place in the TOP 10 best-selling models in the Russian Federation, with Granta accounting for 12.6% last month, and Vesta accounting for 6.9% of the Russian market. The top ten popular new cars also include the Lada Niva Travel and Niva Legend SUVs (each of them occupied 4% of the local market).

Compared to last month, Granta and Vesta remained in their places, the former Chevy Niva rose a couple of floors up and is now listed in fifth, and the “classic” SUV went down one line and is now in sixth. It is worth recalling that this year the Lada Largus will return to the assembly line: serial production of the “workhorse” is scheduled to start at the plant in Izhevsk in May of this year.
The most popular foreign brand at the end of last month was the Chinese Geely, which managed to bypass the “celestial” brand Haval, which had been in the lead over the past few months. Gili's share in the Russian Federation accounted for 11.8%, while in February 2023 the figure was only 5.8%. The brand's bestsellers on the local market remain the Monjaro crossovers (share — 4.7%) and Coolray (2.6%). Note that the “big brother” remained in its fourth place over the past month, while Coolray moved from eighth position to tenth.

On the fourth line among brands is the Chinese Chery with market share of 9.6%, while a year earlier the figure was more respectable – 12.2%. The Tiggo 7 Pro Max (market share – 3.6%) and Tiggo 4 Pro (2.7%) crossovers, which are already familiar to Russians, included in the TOP 10 best-selling cars from the brand.
Rounding out the top five among brands is another “native” from China – Changan – with a share of 5.8% in the Russian market. On the sixth line is the Celestial brand Exeed (3.3%), which belongs to Cherie. Seventh place remained for Omoda (also part of Chery), with a 3.0 percent share in the Russian market. Its bestseller remains the C5 SUV, which over the past month has moved up one line and is now in ninth place (share 2.6%).
