Ford is celebrating ten years of the Transit van's presence in the US market and has prepared a major update for the electric version of the E-Transit.
The current Ford Transit, the seventh generation according to European chronology, debuted in 2013 and entered the American market in 2014; local versions are produced at the Ford plant in Kansas City (Missouri) along with Ford F-150 pickups. The Transit managed to become the best-selling van in the United States: 129,009 units were sold last year. (+29.8% compared to sales in 2022), of which 7,672 units are the electric E-Transit, launched on the market in 2022. For comparison, the Ram ProMaster Van sold 81,663 units in the United States last year. (+34%), ancient Chevrolet Express — 40,660 units. (-23.1%).

The Ram ProMaster Van recently launched an electric version with a 110 kWh battery and an EPA range of 261 km, so Ford decided to beef up the performance of its battery-powered E-Transit van. For the 2024 model year, the usable battery capacity of the E-Transit increased from 68 to 89 kWh (full capacity is not disclosed), the maximum range per charge increased from 187 to 256 km according to the EPA cycle. Maximum charging power increased from 115 to 176 kWThanks to the dual on-board charger, this power allows you to replenish the range by 108 km in 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the average daily mileage of a commercial van in the United States, according to Ford estimates, is 119 km.
There are no other changes in terms of technology: the single electric motor installed on the rear axle still produces a maximum of 269 hp. and 430 Nm. There is a full-fledged household socket with a power of 2.4 kW on board, which can also be used on the go. The E-Transit van is available in two lengths and three heights, with a maximum cargo capacity of 13.8 cubic metres. E-Transit, in addition, can be ordered as a chassis with a cab, on which various superstructures and special-purpose vehicles can be made.
American Ford dealers will begin accepting orders for the updated E-Transit this spring, prices start at $51,095. It is likely that the European E-Transit will also receive a battery with increased capacity in the near future.
