MOSCOW, March 5The Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia (AVVR) called for import duties for wine from NATO countries to be set at 200 percent, said its executive secretary Alexey Plotnikov .
“We decided to once again appeal to the government and the State Duma with a request to strengthen measures to protect the Russian market and to forward to the government and the expert council of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy the position of AVVR, including: on the establishment of import duties for wine, sparkling wine, fortified wine from countries NATO at 200 percent,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
At the end of July last year, the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development reported that the government had increased import duties on wines from unfriendly countries until the end of 2023 — from 12.5 to 20 percent, but not less than one and a half dollars per liter. The measure came into effect on August 1. Later it was extended for the whole of 2024.
According to Plotnikov, the association also proposed to cancel the preferential regime of import duties for wine, sparkling wine, fortified wine from Georgia.
In addition, AVVR called for establishing a quota of 20 percent for Russian wine in stores from September 1, with a further increase to 50 percent.
The Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers came up with the idea of defining a quota for cafes — to have at least 50 percent of domestic products in the wine list from September 1 and to list such drinks at the beginning.
