The start of production of Rivian R2 is scheduled for the first half of 2026, a couple more unexpected new products from the American startup will follow on the assembly line.
Rivian announced the premiere of the R2 crossover last month, and now this “green” SUV has been officially presented. The manufacturer announced that the starting price tag will be 45 thousand dollars, but you will have to wait another couple of years before the new product enters the market: it is possible that the cost by this time will be completely different. An unexpected surprise for fans of the brand was the debut of two new entry-level SUVs — Rivian R3 and R3X (their estimated prices have not yet been made public).

The “younger brother” Rivian R1S is noticeably inferior in size. Thus, the length of the five-seater crossover R2 is 4714 mm (386 mm less than that of the R1S), width (including exterior mirrors) is 1905 mm (305 mm less), height is 1699 mm (264 mm less), and the distance between the axles is 2936 mm (140 mm less). The manufacturer has not yet published the dimensions of the R3 and R3X, but it is obvious that these SUVs will be more compact compared to the Rivian R2.

The appearance of all three new products has many similarities with the large R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV already presented on the American market. All models are designed in a retro style; the head optics are a pair of ovals connected to each other by a wide LED strip. And the lights are made in the form of a single line that runs from the left to the right rear fender across the entire width of the tailgate. Electric vehicles also have a body kit made of unpainted plastic around the perimeter of the body, including linings on the wheel arches.

The interiors of the new products are similar in many ways. In front of the driver there is a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel “flattened” at the top and bottom, and behind it there is a horizontally elongated virtual instrument panel. In the center of the front panel there is a large touchscreen of the infotainment system (the company has not yet indicated the diagonal of the displays). Rivian took into account feedback from R1S customers, so they decided to equip the new SUVs with two glove boxes at the bottom of the front panel on the passenger side. The R3X has a different bumper design, different seats and additional decor.

The crossover received a panoramic sunroof, opening rear side windows, as well as a rear windshield that can be lowered into the tailgate structure. This can be used not only to ventilate the interior, but also to transport large items, for example, a surfboard. Rivian R2 was also equipped with 11 cameras and five radar sensors; this system, according to the company, corresponds to a third-level autopilot.

The Rivian R2, R3 and R3X are based on a new platform designed for mid-size electric vehicles. The new products will be offered a pair of traction batteries to choose from; their capacity has not yet been declassified by the company, but it is known that the more capacious option will provide the new SUV with a maximum range without recharging of more than 483 km. When using a DC fast charging station, it will take less than 30 minutes to top up from 10 to 80%.

Details about the technology will appear later. So far, it is known that the Rivian R2, R3 and R3X will have modifications with a single electric motor located on the rear axle, as well as all-wheel drive options with both dual-motor and triple-motor power plants (two electric motors in the rear and one in the front). The company said that the top version will take less than three seconds to accelerate from zero to “hundreds” (up to 96.7 km/h).
