WASHINGTON, March 7 Russia has achieved success in to «silence» the US government's position in Africa, General Michael Langley, head of the US Africa Command, said Thursday.
«I would say that in recent years, the rhetoric of the Russian Federation has drowned out that promoted by the US government… Russia, not only through the Wagner PMC, has made a major contribution to the growth of instability in the Sahel region. It did this through the campaign on disinformation,» Langley said during testimony before the US Senate Armed Services Committee.
He expressed confidence that Washington needs not only to increase its military capabilities in Africa, but also to “double down” on promoting its own narrative in the region to counter Russian influence.
The New York Times previously wrote that Sputnik and RT are becoming increasingly popular in Africa after the reduction of Western media activities amid growing dissatisfaction with Western rhetoric on the continent.
