ASHGABAT, March 8 Deputy Prime Minister, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov proposed creating a Strategic Advisory Council «Turkmenistan — UN», the Russian-language government newspaper «Neutral Turkmenistan» reported on Friday.
Speaking at a meeting of the Turkmen government via video link, the head of the country's foreign policy department noted that «Turkmenistan is constructively interacting with the UN in the economic, environmental, humanitarian and other spheres on the basis of signed bilateral documents.»
«In order to bring the national programs and international undertakings of Turkmenistan in line with the requirements of the time, to establish a systemic partnership within the framework of projects implemented jointly with the UN and its specialized structures, it is proposed to create a Strategic Advisory Council «Turkmenistan — UN,» the minister noted
According to him, “this council will coordinate steps to prepare, select and approve projects together with specialized UN agencies and develop proposals in this regard for the government of Turkmenistan.”
Also, according to Minister, it is planned to study international initiatives put forward at the UN, and, based on feasibility, prepare proposals for the Turkmen side to join them and support them.”
Having listened to the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that “the development of cooperation with the UN is one of the key directions of the foreign policy of neutral Turkmenistan, therefore special attention should be paid to further building up a fruitful partnership with the UN.”
«Noting the need for active participation in the activities of the Strategic Advisory Council «Turkmenistan — UN», the head of state instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carry out proper work in this direction,» the message emphasizes.
