WARSAW, March 9 Protesting Polish farmers do not want financial compensation , but changes in the regulation of the European Union food market, one of the protest leaders in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Emil Mecha, told reporters.
On Saturday, a meeting between representatives of protesting farmers and Prime Minister Donald Tusk ended in Warsaw. Following its results, farmers said that they had not received specific proposals and would continue their protests.
«We will not stop the protest until the European Union systematically changes the situation in agriculture. Until the Green Deal climate package is adapted to the demands of farmers,» Mecha said.
He noted that compensation for farmers will not be enough. “We will not give up our protest until Ukrainian, and not only Ukrainian, but food originating from outside the European Union, is systematically regulated on European markets. If we accept some kind of compensation now, then in September we will enter the same cycle «, explained the farmer.
Farmer protests have been taking place in Poland since the beginning of February. The main demands of the protesters are to stop the import of agricultural products from Ukraine to Poland and to abandon the environmental plans of the European Union, which involves achieving zero emissions into the atmosphere by 2050.
