In turn, the next M4 coupe will most likely have only all-electric options.

The BMW M division, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022, is responsible for the development of the “charged” BMW M3 sedan and M4 coupe. The “hot” models are based on the “standard” 3 series and 4 series, respectively; Let us remind you that the current generation “EMCs” were presented in the fall of 2020, and now the Bavarian manufacturer is creating a new generation BMW M3 and M4.

Last summer, information appeared that the next BMW M3 and M4 could be completely “green”, and then it was assumed that versions with internal combustion engines would become a thing of the past. However, according to new rumors, this is only true for the “charged” coupe of the new generation. The hot coupe, currently in development, is expected to have both all-green and internal combustion engine variants; and they will be sold in parallel.

BMW Blog reports that the “charged” four-door will have a version with an internal combustion engine. According to the resource, the new sedan will retain its current engine – the 3.0-liter twin-turbo six S58. It is assumed that the manufacturer will upgrade the engine so that it meets the requirements for the level of emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere.

The current “hot” BMW M3 and M4 have engine output of either 480 or 510 hp, and maximum torque is 550 and 650 Nm, respectively. In the first case, a six-speed manual transmission is offered, in the second — an eight-speed automatic transmission. The sedan and coupe can have either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. According to BMW Blog, the next petrol M3 will probably not have a manual version, leaving only an automatic transmission option.

It is possible that the decision to leave the gasoline “charged” sedan in service (BMW has not yet confirmed this information) was influenced by the current crisis in demand for electric vehicles. It is worth recalling that several manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz, recently announced a decision to slow down the “greening” process: the German brand intends to continue updating models with internal combustion engines in the coming years.

The publication notes that the gasoline and all-electric BMW M3 will have different platforms. It is possible that in the first case it will be a current “trolley”, and in the second – the Neue Klasse platform, on which the concept of the same name, presented in early September last year, is based. It was equipped with a four-motor unit (one electric motor on each wheel), the estimated total output of this system is 1360 hp.

At the beginning of this month it became known that the Bavarians decided not to send the “clown shoe” BMW Touring Coupe based on the Z4 into production. Previously, it was assumed that the manufacturer would produce 50 copies, and the price tag would be set at $250 thousand. However, it is now reported that this project never received the green light.
