The Nikulinsky District Court of Moscow arrested Moscow State University student Oleg Tarasov for 10 days because of the name of the Wi-Fi network he created. The arrest order was published in the database of Moscow courts, and “Caution, News” drew attention to it.
Tarasov was found guilty of demonstrating extremist symbols (Part 1 of Article 20.3 of the Administrative Code). The court made this decision on March 7. In addition to the arrest, the court also ordered the confiscation of the student’s Wi-Fi router.
The ruling in the case states that back in October, Tarasov bought a new router and created the “Slava Ukraine!” Wi-Fi network. On March 6, employees of Center “E” drew attention to the name of the network — they detained the student and drew up an administrative report against him.
According to security officials, Tarasov put this name “for the purpose of promoting the slogan of Ukrainian nationalists.” On the day the report was drawn up, the police inspected his room.
