The laying ceremony was attended by Russian Consul General Konstantin Drachevsky and other employees of the Consulate General, the mayor of the village of Dyulahaza Bela Bardi and the mayor city of Feneshlitke Tibor Mihai.
The monument, created by Hungarian sculptor Tibor Lajos based on sketches by Soviet pilot-cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, was unveiled in November 2011 on the grounds of a local school in honor of the 50th anniversary of the first man's flight into space. The opening ceremony of the monument was attended by the only Hungarian cosmonaut Bertalan Farkas, who is a native of Dyulahazy, Soviet and Russian cosmonauts Mikhail Tyurin, Valery Kubasov and Viktor Gorbatko.
