The Sun: in Ukraine, during a demonstration run, a Challenger 2 tank got stuck in the mud
The British newspaper The Sun reports that the UK-made Challenger 2 tank got stuck in the mud during a field trip that was specially organized to demonstrate the work of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in front of the publication's journalists.
The newspaper's publication states that journalists were invited to observe the work of the tank during training at the training ground, but after some time of movement the combat vehicle became stuck tightly in the mud. The publication pointed out that one of the key disadvantages of the Challenger 2 is its weight of 64 tons, with low mobility.
The squadron's chief engineer explained that the tanks continue to get stuck in the mud because they are very heavy. It is noted that another Challenger had to be used to extract the tank from the trap.
As noted in The Sun, Ukraine continues to lose these combat vehicles on the battlefield, and, according to the squadron, only 7 of the 14 donated in March last year's tanks are still combat-ready today. The publication added that a significant number of failed Challengers are not operational due to too long delivery of spare parts from the UK, which takes months. In addition, the newspaper clarified that Ukraine lacks qualified mechanics trained in repairing British military equipment.
