A military transport plane crashed in the Ivanovo region near the Northern airfield. The first video of a falling Il-76 with a burning engine was published by IvanovoNews.
The crash of the Il-76 was also reported by telegram channels “112”, Baza and Shot. Residents of Ivanovo spoke about black smoke that was noticed in different parts of the city. Shot writes that the Il-76 made an emergency landing in a field near the village of Podtalitsy about two kilometers from the airfield.
“Preliminarily, there are no casualties or destruction on earth. Operational services are working on the spot,” adds the local publication Kstati.news.
Later, the Ministry of Defense confirmed the crash of an Il-76 during takeoff in the Ivanovo region, the department’s message is quoted by RIA Novosti. There were eight crew members and seven passengers on board. The Ministry of Defense calls the cause of the crash a fire in the engine.
The Mash Telegram channel, without specifying sources, claims that, according to preliminary data, the engine of the military transport aircraft was “due to a bird hitting one of the right engines.” Shot then reports a “technical malfunction.”
There is no official confirmation of these versions. The authorities of the Ivanovo region have not yet commented on the crash.
At the end of January a military transport plane Il-76M crashed near Belgorod. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that there were 74 people on board: 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war who were being transported to the border for exchange, three accompanying persons and six crew members.
