Porsche officially announced the hybrid 911 and a line of exclusive sports cars

Next summer, Porsche will present an updated family of 911 sports cars with the factory index 992.2, for the first time in the range there will be hybrid versions, but full electrification itself There are no plans for an iconic Porsche model yet.

Porsche today published its financial results for 2023, which are excellent in all key indicators: for example, profit after tax amounted to 5.157 billion euros compared to 4.967 billion in 2022. Sales have also increased (see table below), and, curiously, the Porsche 911 is selling better than the Porsche 718, Panamera and Taycan. However, it must be taken into account that the Panamera recently changed its generation, and the Taycan was seriously updated — many customers were simply waiting for more recent cars.

The world premiere of the current generation 992 Porsche 911 took place in the fall of 2018 — now it’s time for restyling: the updated family will be presented in early summer and it has been officially announced that hybrid versions will appear in the range. There are no technical details yet, but according to the British magazine Autocar, the hybrid versions will be all-wheel drive with a 400-volt electrical architecture, the internal combustion engine will rotate the rear wheels, and the electric motor will drive the front wheels. The hybrid powertrain, including a high-performance battery, is being developed in partnership with the Croatian company Rimac, 45% of which is owned by Porsche. The upcoming top version of the GT2 RS will also be a hybrid, with a maximum output of at least 800 hp.

There will also be cosmetic updates inside and out, but for the Porsche 911 they are not the main thing; when upgrading this model, the main focus is traditionally on technology: power plants, suspension, aerodynamics, electronics. The 992.2 generation is expected to survive at least until 2027, when an all-new Porsche 911 will appear, and it will also be a hybrid rather than fully electric.

Meanwhile, by the end of 2024, Porsche expects a deterioration in its financial performance due to the high costs of developing new models and the high density of their entry into the market: in addition to the aforementioned Panamera and Taycan, Porsche recently introduced the all-electric Macan. In total, together with the upcoming updated Porsche 911, there are four major premieres during the year, plus some separate modifications, such as the Taycan Turbo GT. In 2025, a fully electric Porsche 718 on its own platform is expected, followed by an electric Cayenne and another larger flagship crossover, also electric. In general, there are a lot of expenses and I would also like more income.

Porsche intends to increase profitability through small-scale exclusive high-margin sports cars that will compete with Ferrari models from the One-Off and Icona series, as well as with the upcoming Mercedes models -Benz from the Mythos line. It’s strange that Porsche hasn’t done this kind of custom tailoring before, limiting itself only to special series of existing models. Demand for exclusive cars is growing around the world, with wealthy collectors coveting custom, rare and expensive Porsches — there is no doubt that the exclusive line will be a success.
