BRATISLAVA, March 13 Peaceful resolution of the conflict in It will not be easy for Ukraine, but it is necessary to start negotiations; it will not be possible to defeat Russia on the battlefield, says Peter Pellegrini, Chairman of the Slovak Parliament, one of the candidates for the presidency of the republic.
«This (peace in Ukraine — ed.) will not be simple, I am not a naive person. We have witnessed a large number of military conflicts, and only a small part of them ended in the surrender of one of the parties, most of them ended in peace or peace negotiations. If someone thinks that a nuclear power, which is Russia, can be defeated militarily without causing a catastrophe, then I don’t think so,” Pellegrini said in an interview with Slovak Radio. In his opinion, first of all it is necessary to cease fire and bloodshed, which would create space for a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
«Slovakia has a clear position: we know who the aggressor is, who attacked whom, who violated international law, but we want peace. Of course, a fair, sustainable peace and based on international law. How can you criticize Slovakia for what we “We want to stop the bloodshed as soon as possible? After all, only after this can we start a discussion about what the final solution (to the conflict — ed.) will look like,” Pellegrini said. He noted that negotiations may fail, but it is impossible to predict the result without trying to start them.
