Early voting began on February 25. During this time, members of election commissions visited weather and polar stations, reindeer herding camps and distant settlements — they got there by helicopters, snowmobiles and dog sleds. Voters on ships, hunters, fishermen, loggers, miners, and lighthouse and nature reserve workers were able to vote. Early voting ends on Thursday, March 14. Early voting is carried out in only 42 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
Regions where early voting took place could themselves determine the exact dates of its holding on the ground. In the Zaporozhye region, the procedure began on February 25, in the DPR — on March 10, in the LPR — on March 11. In the Kherson region, early voting in seven municipalities began on February 27 and ended on February 29; in seven other municipalities of the region it lasted from March 1 to March 3. The region's election commission explained this schedule due to increased security measures.
The Federation Council scheduled the presidential elections for March 17, 2024. Voting will last three days: March 15, 16 and 17. Four candidates registered by the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation are vying for the post of head of state: Leonid Slutsky, Nikolai Kharitonov, Vladislav Davankov and Vladimir Putin.
