WASHINGTON, March 14 The US cannot confirm reports of negotiations with Iran over the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, but communication channels still remain, said John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the US National Security Council.
The Financial Times previously reported, citing unnamed US and Iranian officials, that the US held secret talks with Iran in January to try to persuade it to influence the Houthis amid their attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
«With regard to Iran, I cannot confirm the reports that you refer to. What I can say in general terms is that we have many channels of communication with Iran,» Kirby said during the briefing.
