MOSCOW, March 15 The exhibition «Lovers of native history. Pavel Karabanov and Moscow collectors of the 19th century» opened at the Moscow Kremlin Museums, reported the press service of the museums.
The head of the Moscow Kremlin Museums, Elena Gagarina, noted that the Armory Chamber is known, first of all, as the royal and imperial treasury, but the organizers of the exhibition want to show that the formation of the collection took place not only at the sovereign’s court.

"We will tell you about a galaxy of Russian collectors, whose names are almost unknown to the Russian public. But these were precisely the people who understood and loved Russian art and collected works similar to those kept in the Armory. This exhibition, the likes of which has never been seen in the history of Russian museums, will help visitors immerse themselves in the world of passionate collectors of Russian antiquities, one of whom was Pavel Karabanov,” the press service quoted her as saying.
An expert on Russian history and antiquities, Pavel Karabanov did not give preference to works of any particular field of art, but sought to present antiquities in all their diversity in his collection. The Karabanov family had a rich history, its representatives respected the memory of their ancestors, kept family treasures and legends associated with them. This served as the basis for creating a home collection and determined the direction of Karabanov’s activities.
“
"The exhibition project is a tribute to the memory of the people who preserved the unique monuments of the cultural heritage of Russia. The exhibition brings together more than four hundred works from the Moscow Kremlin Museums and other collections of the country, many of them are presented to the general public for the first time,” the press service concluded.
