ST. PETERSBURG, March 16 The Moskovsky District Court of St. Petersburg took into custody a resident of St. Petersburg who threw a Molotov cocktail at the wall of one of the polling stations , reports the United Press Service of the city courts.
As previously reported by the chairman of the St. Petersburg Election Commission, Maxim Meiksin, on Friday a girl threw a Molotov cocktail at the sign of one of the polling stations in the Moskovsky district of the city. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries. The Main Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg reported that a criminal case was opened against a 22-year-old resident of St. Petersburg under the article “obstruction of the exercise of voting rights and the work of election commissions.” According to investigators, the suspect acted “by prior conspiracy with unidentified persons” to prevent the exercise of citizens’ electoral rights and the work of election commissions.
“The Moskovsky District Court of St. Petersburg issued a decision to select a preventive measure in the form of detention in relation to Alexandra Karaseva, accused of committing a crime under paragraph 2 of Article 141 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation… The duration of the measure is May 14, 2024,” — the message says.
As reported in the materials, unidentified persons “developed a criminal plan, the purpose of which was to disrupt the work of one of the polling stations by setting fire to the entrance.” Karaseva was implicated in committing the crime over the phone.
It is noted that Karaseva admitted guilt, objected to the measure, and asked for house arrest.
The St. Petersburg prosecutor's office reported that it has taken control of the progress and results of the investigation in this criminal case.
