Belgorod again came under fire from the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the morning of March 16, said Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov; a man and a woman were killed and at least three local residents were injured.
According to Gladkov, the deceased man was driving a truck when he was hit by a shell, after which the car crashed into a bus — no passengers were injured.
“Another woman died in a garage cooperative, where she and her son came to feed the dogs. Much to our grief, the woman died on the spot,” said the head of the region. Her son received shrapnel wounds to the head, shoulder and chest.
Two other men suffered traumatic brain injuries as a result of the shooting. The victims were taken to the hospital.
The Ministry of Defense reported this morning that air defense systems shot down eight rockets from the Vampire multiple launch rocket system on approach to Belgorod. The department also reported that three Ukrainian drones were shot down over the Belgorod region.
Gladkov later clarified that 106 apartments in 22 apartment buildings, one private house, two social facilities and 64 cars received various damages in Belgorod. Shopping centers in the city will be closed on Sunday and Monday. In schools and colleges, March 18 and 19 have been declared public holidays.

The governor of the Kursk region, Roman Starovoyt, also spoke about the shelling of settlements in the Korenevsky and Glushkovsky districts today. The Ministry of Defense reported that Russian units “repelled attacks and stopped attempts to penetrate into the territory of the Russian Federation by sabotage and reconnaissance groups of Ukrainian militants from the settlement of Popovka, Sumy region, as well as in the direction of the settlements of Spodaryushino and Kozinka, Belgorod region” . The department claims that “the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces amounted to up to 30 military personnel.”
The Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) reported today on the continuation of the “operation” in the Belgorod and Kursk regions.
