MOSCOW, March 16. The VI International Cultural Project “Nureyev Seasons” took place at the Russian House in Rome. It was timed to coincide with the 86th birthday of ballet dancer and choreographer Rudolf Nureyev, which the whole world celebrates on March 17.
The legendary Russian artist has a lot in common with Italy: he began working actively on various stages of the peninsula since the mid-60s.

In 1965, at the Milan Opera and Ballet Theater «La Scala» Nureyev staged «The Swan» as a choreographer lake». In 1981, he successfully danced the main role in his own production of the play “Marco Spada” on the stage of the Rome Opera and Ballet Theater. And by the end of the 80s he was already coming to his own island of Li Galli, arranged to his taste in the south of Italy.
The documentary film «Rudolf Nureyev. An Unearthly Island» produced by the film company «Your Handwriting» was shown to Italian audiences for the first time. Director Tatyana Malova, a multiple TEFI award winner, received exclusive permission to film in the choreographer’s house on the island of Li Galli, where he spent the last year of his life.

“Nureyev and Italy, in addition to the professional one, had a deep emotional connection, so the film turned out to be very warm, sincere and almost intimate. Nureyev is still alive here thanks to the vivid memories of him from friends, colleagues, students and everyone who had the opportunity to touch his Universe. This is precisely what can explain the delight of the Italian public who came to the premiere at the Russian House in Rome. And this love for Russian ballet, embodied by the great dancer, is still very strong in Italy,” commented Daria Pushkova, director of the Russian House in Rome.
The head of the international cultural project “Nureyev Seasons” Alfiya Chebotareva came to the capital of Italy especially for the opening: “We began to engage in film research of the work of Rudolf Nureyev when in 2012 we worked on creating the first film about the great ballet dancer “Rudolf Nureyev. Rebellious demon.» And the more we collected materials about him, the more we recorded the memories of his friends, stage partners in Russia and France, the more we were captivated by this incredible personality, who made his way to the very top of the ballet Olympus. Both in Kazan and Ufa annually hosts a ballet festival named after him,” she said during the event.
The founder and director of the Italian magazine Ballet 2000, Alfio Agostini, who knew the Russian choreographer personally, took part in the evening via video link from Turin. He showed the public the first issue of the magazine, which was published 42 years ago. On its cover is a photograph of Rudolf Nureyev: “The Italian audience loved Nureyev for his character, for his creative power and creative energy. They simply could not resist all this — this is the main quality of Nureyev as a brilliant artist,” he shared.< br />The second day of the film marathon was dedicated to the screening of the rare film “Venice. Carnival. Love” by Italian film director Mario Lanfranchi. In this film, Rudolf Nureyev played the main role — for the last time. The famous Venetian photographer Graziano Arici, who worked on the set, took unique shots — some of them were exhibited in the halls of the Russian House in Rome.
