CERN will stop working with almost 500 employees associated with Russia on November 30
At the end of November, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) will cease cooperation with approximately 500 specialists associated with Russia, CERN spokesman Arnault said Marsolier. At the moment, CERN has less than 500 users with ties to Russian organizations, most of whom do not live in Switzerland.
According to Marsolier, the suspension of cooperation will come into force on November 30 this year. CERN no longer receives funding from Russia, and is preparing for other groups to take over tasks at the Large Hadron Collider in the future.
Pavel Logachev, director of the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics at the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in December that BINP SB RAS specialists will continue to cooperate with CERN until the fall of 2024, transferring cases to colleagues from other countries. CERN is the world's largest high-energy physics laboratory, and the Large Hadron Collider was the site of one of the key discoveries in modern physics — proof of the existence of the Higgs boson.
