Economist Belyaev predicted a rise in prices for all food products
All food products of everyday demand will become more expensive in Russia. The price increase will affect canned food, baked goods, drinks, meat, groceries, semi-finished products, vegetables, tobacco, alcohol and other items. Candidate of Economic Sciences, financial analyst Mikhail Belyaev spoke about this to the URA.ru agency.
He explained that against the backdrop of the general inflationary flow, the cost of products that are consumed daily and have nothing to replace them will grow the fastest.
“First of all, this is due to the fact that prices are controlled by retail chains. They increase prices, citing various pretexts, ranging from sanctions to currency fluctuations,” the economist said, adding that these factors do affect the cost of goods, but not to the extent that sellers say.
According to Belyaev, there is no reduction or stabilization of prices on the market, as demonstrated, for example, by the situation with chicken meat and eggs. He noted that the increase in these goods in 2023 was 60%, and the decrease in the cost of eggs was recorded at 2.5%, for chicken — by 3%.
Another specialist Konstantin Kalugin said, that the price increase will be more noticeable for meat and dairy products. He cites rising prices for drugs, feed and production equipment as reasons. Especially, according to Kalugin, the price of beef, lamb, and turkey will increase, while pork and chicken will become cheaper, thanks to established production in Russia.
Increasing excise taxes by 4.9% will lead to higher prices for tobacco and alcohol products products.
A poor harvest will lead to an increase in prices for coffee and chocolate, but vegetable oil, on the contrary, according to Kalugin, will become cheaper.
