MOSCOW, March 22 More than 60% of Russians cannot explain in their own words what the key rate is and what its change means, follows from an analytical survey NAFI center
NAFI analysts conducted a survey where they asked whether respondents could describe in their own words what a key rate is and what its change means. Approximately 63% reported that they could not do this, while the remaining 37% reported that they could.
It is noted that the situation is worst among Russians under 24 years of age — 70% cannot explain themselves what the key rate is. Moreover, 66% of such respondents were in the age groups 25-34 years old and over 55 years old. Most of all those who can explain the meaning of the key rate in their own words are among Russians aged 35-44 years — 42%.
If you look at the level of income, then the least number of those who understand what the key rate is is among Russians with incomes of less than 30 thousand rubles and more than 100 thousand rubles — 36% and 43% , respectively. The only group where more than half can explain the key rate in their own words are citizens with incomes of 60-100 thousand rubles.
At the same time, men cannot give an explanation in 61% of cases, and women — in 65%.
The key rate is the interest rate at which the regulator issues loans to banks. Depending on it, banks set their own interest rates for loans and deposits. Today, the Central Bank kept the key rate at 16% per annum.
