DONETSK, March 22 Ukrainian troops shelled the Petrovsky district of Donetsk and the center of Gorlovka, firing 12 shells of 155 mm caliber in half an hour, the DPR representative office in Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes by Ukraine.
«Firing from armed formations was recorded in the direction: 10:30 — the settlement of Zhelannye Second — the city of Donetsk (Petrovsky district): 3 shells of 155 mm caliber were fired… 10:35 — the settlement of Zhelannye Second — the city of Donetsk (Petrovsky district): fired 3 shells with a caliber of 155 mm… 10:40 – the village of Zhelannye Second – the city of Donetsk (Petrovsky district): 3 shells with a caliber of 155 mm were fired,” says a message published on the Telegram channel of the representative office.
At 11.00 the Central City district of Gorlovka was shelled by three shells of the same caliber. The consequences have not yet been reported.
Petrovsky district is located on the western outskirts of Donetsk, it is the most distant part of the city from the center. Since 2014, when the DPR declared independence from Kyiv, this area has regularly come under fire from Ukrainian security forces.
Gorlovka is located 50 kilometers north of Donetsk, the city is home to the Stirol chemical concern and coal mining enterprises. This is one of the largest populated areas of the DPR; before the start of the conflict in Donbass, the population of Gorlovka numbered more than 250 thousand people.
155 mm artillery is used by NATO countries. The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range howitzers M777 of 155 mm caliber, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
