Iranian Foreign Ministry appreciates UN resolution on ceasefire in Gaza

TEHRAN, March 26 Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani called The adoption of a UN Security Council resolution on a ceasefire in Gaza is a «positive but insufficient step», the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.
«Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani described the adoption of a UN Security Council resolution on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after six months… of failure to act as a deterrent against war crimes and genocide by the Israeli regime against Palestinian citizens as a positive but insufficient step,» it said. in a message posted on the official Telegram channel of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

According to Kanaani, a step more important than the adoption of this resolution is «effective measures for its implementation and a complete and stable cessation of attacks» by Israel on the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, the complete lifting of the blockade of Gaza, the opening corridors for the delivery of humanitarian aid and international funding for infrastructure reconstruction in Gaza.

An official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry called Israel's reaction to the adoption of the resolution «anger at an irreparable defeat… in the political and international arena» and expressed hope that the UN Security Council will call Israel to account for the crimes committed against the Palestinian people over the past six months.
On Monday, for the first time since October 7, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip for the month of Ramadan, which would lead to a long-term sustainable truce. Fourteen countries voted in favor, while the United States abstained. During her speech, the US Permanent Representative dropped the phrase that the resolution is not binding. Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, expressing regret that his American colleague did not read the organization’s Charter, told reporters that all UN Security Council resolutions are binding.

The text of the resolution does not link the ceasefire to the release of the abducted, which is a stumbling block for Israel. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already said that the United States has moved away from its consistent position on the war in the Gaza Strip, adding that it is damaging Israel's military efforts and prospects for returning the hostages. The office added that in light of the change in US position, Netanyahu decided not to send a high-ranking delegation to Washington to discuss the planned operation in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip to eliminate the remaining battalions of the Palestinian radical movement Hamas.
