BRUSSELS, March 25 Organizers of the festival in the Belgian city of Liege have canceled the participation of the popular Italian performer Pupo (Enzo Ghinazzi) because of his performance in Russia, Belgian media reported on Monday MASS MEDIA.
A three-day festival of Italian culture is scheduled for early June. It is hosted by the local Italian diaspora. Pupo was supposed to be one of the main guests of the festival. However, according to the Belgian online publication Sudinfo, the singer was suspended because his participation allegedly “does not correspond to the values of the festival.”
Previously, for the same reason, Pupo’s participation in a concert in Siauliai, Lithuania, was canceled.
On the stage of the State Kremlin Palace on March 15, the concert “Big benefit performance of Pupo. Among friends” took place with the participation of famous Russian artists.
Pupo is an Italian singer who became famous for the song Gelato Al Cioccolato. He has been performing on the Italian stage for over 40 years. In 1985, he had a very successful tour in the USSR, during which he gave 40 concerts. Since then, he has performed in Russia several times and remains one of the most popular representatives of the old Italian stage. In March 2022, as a sign of solidarity with his Russian colleagues, Pupo performed the Soviet composition “There is only a moment” in Russian. Last May, he announced that he did not go to a music festival in Russia due to threats he received.
