The Main Department of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region on Monday evening announced the detention at Pulkovo airport of a 41-year-old local resident, whose statements on the Internet allegedly had “signs of extremism.” According to the police, the detainee was planning to leave Russia. As a source in the emergency services clarified, it turned out to be Nikolai Konashenok, who had previously spoken ambiguously about the terrorist attack in the Moscow region. After his arrest, the press service of the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation distributed a video in which Konashenok asked for forgiveness from the audience and said that he did not support terrorism.
Konashenok’s posts were deleted, but managed to cause a wide public outcry. Thus, State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov said that he would appeal to the Ministry of Internal Affairs with a demand to put the author “on the same bench with terrorist creatures.” His wife Roxana Shatunovskaya, who held the position of general director of the New Holland ANO, said on Monday that she resigned from her position because of her husband’s position, which she condemns, but “stays with the family.”
