“The Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation refrains from commenting, since in the context of discussing this problem in today’s situation, the issue may become the subject of consideration by the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation,” the press service said.
State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said on Tuesday that to return the death penalty, a decision of the Constitutional Court is sufficient; there is no need for a referendum.
The leader of the party «A Just Russia — For Truth» Sergei Mironov, in turn, stated that he would insist on holding a referendum on the return of the death penalty on a single voting day in 2024.
