The state prosecution has asked the anarchist Azat Miftakhov to three years in prison in the case of justifying terrorism

During the debate in the Central District Military Court of Yekaterinburg, the prosecutor asked the anarchist and mathematician Azat Miftakhova to three years in prison in the case of justifying terrorism in a conversation with cellmates, Miftakhov’s support group reports.

The new case began to be considered at the end of February (Part 1 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). According to the investigation, Miftakhov, in front of prisoners of the Kirov penal colony IK-17 Gadzhimuradov, Naumov and Trushkov, “approved” the act of Mikhail Zhlobitsky, who staged an explosion in the FSB building in Arkhangelsk, said that he would “take revenge” for the death of a friend who fought on the side of Ukraine, and that “FSB guys need to be blown up.”

Previously, Miftakhov’s wife told Mediazona that it was Trushkov who gave testimony on the basis of which a criminal case was opened against her husband. The anarchist himself denies his guilt.

In the winter of 2021, a graduate student at Moscow State University was sentenced to six years in prison for hooliganism (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code). According to security officials, in 2018, anarchists broke the window of the United Russia office in the Khovrino district of Moscow, threw a smoke bomb inside and posted the video on the Internet.

A classified witness, questioned a year after the case was opened, claimed that he identified Miftakhov by his “expressive eyebrows.” The anarchist himself denied that he participated in the action.

In August 2023, shortly before his release, Miftakhov was added to the “list of extremists and terrorists” maintained by Rosfinmonitoring. On September 4, Miftakhov was detained at the exit from the colony; the next day, the Pervomaisky District Court of Kirov sent him under arrest. Before the start of the trial in the case of justifying terrorism, Miftakhov was transferred to pre-trial detention center No. 5 in Yekaterinburg.
