KHABAROVSK, March 28 People's Khural of the Republic of Buryatia at an extraordinary session on Thursday, a majority vote passed a bill on amendments to the republican law, which envisage the abolition of direct elections of the mayor of Ulan-Ude.
The issue was the third on the agenda of the meeting, they said in the local parliament.
«Deputies of the People's Republic «The Khural majority approved the abolition of direct elections for the mayor of Ulan-Ude. City council deputies will now elect the mayor from among the candidates selected by the commission based on the results of the competition,» a representative of the People's Khural told the agency after the end of the session.
Previously reported , that the bill “On Amendments to Article 22 of the Law of the Republic of Buryatia “On the Organization of Local Self-Government in the Republic of Buryatia” was proposed by the head of the region Alexey Tsydenov “in order to improve the organization of local government in the territory of the Republic of Buryatia.”
According to the bill, it is proposed to elect the head Ulan-Ude is the representative body of the municipality from among the candidates presented by the commission based on the results of the competition.
Prior to this decision, direct elections in the capital cities of the regions of Russia, with the exception of cities of federal significance (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sevastopol), remained in Khabarovsk , Anadyr, Abakan, Yakutsk and Ulan-Ude. Direct elections for the mayor of Novosibirsk were canceled last year.
