TORZHOK (Tver region), March 27Russian President Vladimir Putin asked the Governor of the Tver Region, Igor Rudenya, to prepare proposals for the comprehensive restoration of monuments of cultural significance with their surrounding territories, so that the region could receive funds for such purposes under various programs.
During Putin’s meeting with cultural workers of the Tver Region, Rudenya voiced the idea of using an integrated approach to the restoration of cultural monuments.
“It is meant that the region allocates its money and, perhaps, some small federal co-financing, and solve this comprehensively — both the monument and the adjacent territories,” Rudenya said, explaining that in this case the restoration project will be divided at several stages, including the restoration of the monument itself, the surrounding area and other elements, such as street signs.
Putin invited the governor to prepare proposals so that the region could receive funds for such purposes under various programs.
«We have many programs: a program to support small towns, a program for improving territories. So you prepare proposals, and we will try to work on each of these programs, and you will put it together,» Putin replied.
The governor also noted that during a comprehensive restoration, the regional authorities may encounter a problem, since residential historical properties may be privately owned. Rudenya asked that the region be given the right to invest in the restoration of such objects after a special commission gives permission.
“If you see any restrictions… Okay, let’s remove them, no problem, we’ll work them out,” Putin replied.
