MOSCOW, March 28 Since 2021, Roskomnadzor has drawn up 19 protocols against Telegram and imposed fines totaling 68 million rubles for failure to remove illegal content, the regulator said.

They recalled that since February 2021, a law on self-control of social networks has been in force, according to which Internet platforms are required to independently quickly identify and block prohibited information. To monitor compliance with the law, the department maintains a register of social networks, which includes resources whose attendance reaches 500 thousand Russian users per day.
According to MediaScope data, which are cited in the Roskomnadzor message, the audience of the Telegram platform is about 85 million people. This Internet service is included in the registry.
Previously, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov memorized that there are no plans to block Telegram in Russia, but the creator of the messenger Pavel Durov should pay more attention to the use of this resource by terrorists.
