
MOSCOW, March 31The Earth remote sensing satellite «Resurs-P» No. 4, capable of taking highly detailed images of the planet's surface with a resolution of 70 centimeters, will be launched into orbit on Sunday from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, the Roscosmos press service reported.
«Launch of the Earth remote sensing satellite «Resurs-P» No. 4. Launch date and time: March 31, 12.37 Moscow time,» says the materials of the state corporation.
It is noted that the device will be launched into orbit by the Soyuz-2.1b rocket. From the moment of launch until the satellite separates from the third stage of the rocket, 9 minutes 23 seconds will pass.
The rocket and apparatus were manufactured at the Progress Rocket and Space Center (RSC) in Samara.
The Resurs-P No. 4 spacecraft is designed for highly detailed, wide-area and hyperspectral optical-electronic observation of the Earth's surface for the purpose of studying natural resources. In addition, it can be used to monitor pollution and environmental degradation, search for mineral deposits, assess ice conditions, monitor emergency situations, and create and update topographic and navigation maps. It was previously reported that Resurs-P will be able to take pictures of the Earth with a resolution of 70 centimeters.
The satellite was delivered to the cosmodrome on March 11, and on March 29 the rocket with it was installed on the launch pad.
The launch will be the fifth Russian space launch in 2024 and the third from Baikonur. This will be the 70th flight for the Soyuz-2.1b version of the rocket.
Earlier, Deputy General Director of the state corporation Mikhail Khailov announced plans to launch two such satellites this year.
