WASHINGTON, March 30 Experts have determined that the hull of a Singapore container ship The Dali was damaged in a collision with a bridge in Maryland, but remained intact, said the governor of the US state, Wes Moore.
An out-of-control ship demolished the Francis Scott Key highway bridge on Tuesday and blocked the port of Baltimore, one of the largest on the East Coast of the United States.
«I was assured by unified command this morning that the hull of the Dali is damaged but intact,» Moore said at a daily briefing for reporters.
Military experts, he said, intend to first cut and lift from the water sections of the bridge that collapsed north of the collision site.
«This will allow us to open a temporary channel with restrictions, which will allow more ships to bypass the wreck site. Clearing this section of the Key Bridge will take time. It won't take hours or days, but when we do it, we can bring in more tugs and barges to speed up the work,” the governor said.
Currently 377 people are employed in the work. The day before, heavy cranes began to arrive there, with the help of which it is planned to remove sections of the bridge weighing three to four thousand tons.
