MOSCOW, March 29 Russia and Belarus are capable of creating a joint multi-satellite constellation of Earth remote sensing satellites in the near future, First Deputy General Director of Roscosmos Andrei Elchaninov said on Friday.
«We hope that we will jointly reach a common understanding, common use and create a multi-satellite constellation that will provide the remote sensing data of the Earth that the Union State will need in full and in a quality that will correspond to the best world analogues,» — he said at the expert and media forum «Union State. Scientific Breakthrough», held at the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.
«An analysis of the potential production capabilities of various countries and enterprises suggests that everything is in our hands and we are able to do this in the near future,» added Elchaninov.
He noted that Roscosmos and Belarusian enterprises have “a complete understanding and virtually no disagreements” in all areas of the space industry.
The first Belarusian spacecraft was created at the Russian enterprise VNIIEM based on the Canopus satellites. It was sent into orbit in 2012. In 2029, a new generation Belarusian-Russian apparatus is expected to be launched, which will be able to take pictures of the Earth's surface with a resolution of 35 centimeters.
