MOSCOW, March 29 SRHR is preparing a bill on a ban on foreign agents being nominated as deputies, said first deputy leader of the faction Dmitry Gusev.
Earlier, the public movement “Call of the People” asked Gusev to raise in the State Duma the issue of banning foreign agents from running for deputies and holding public positions, mentioning foreign agent TV presenter Tatyana Lazareva*, who decided to run for the Moscow City Duma, it follows from the relevant document, which is available.
«Social activists from the organization «Call of the People» asked me to raise the issue in the State Duma about banning foreign agents from running for deputies. I agree with this position… Party leader Sergei Mironov and the faction «A Just Russia — For Truth» support this initiative. We are preparing amendments to the election law,» Gusev said. The parliamentarian emphasized that persons receiving foreign funding should be deprived of the right to be elected and hold elective positions.
Earlier, Lazareva* announced on social networks her intention, together with 44 other people, to run for the Moscow City Duma, elections to which will be held in the fall. According to Lazareva*, she wants to check whether “the status of a foreign agent does not discriminate against people at all, as they say.”
The Ministry of Justice said that foreign agents have the right to participate in elections as candidates, but are required to comply with the restrictions imposed on them by law, in particular, indicating their status in an application to the Central Election Commission, in campaign materials and at the polling station.
