The Investigative Committee of Russia filed a petition in court for the arrest in absentia of the mayor of the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi, Roman Klichuk. “Mediazona” discovered this in the database of the Chertanovsky District Court of Moscow.
Klichuk is accused of spreading “fake news” about the Russian military (clause “d” of part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). According to the court, the petition was registered today and has not yet been granted.
The prosecution of a Ukrainian official in absentia in December 2023 was reported by TASS, citing sources. The pretext for this, according to the agency, was Klychuk’s posts on Facebook and Instagram about the killings of civilians near Kiev during the occupation of territories by the Russian military in 2022.
