On the Russian market of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, about 341.6 thousand units were sold in the first three months of this year. This figure is 85.6% more than in January-March 2023.
According to the latest statistics from the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, in the first quarter of 2024, dealers in the Russian Federation sold a total of 249,118 new cars and light commercial vehicles (excluding alternative vehicle supply channels). Taking them into account, the figure increases to 332,898 units. According to information provided by PPK JSC (Passport Industrial Consulting, a joint venture between Autostat and Electronic Passport), during the specified period, 341,619 copies were put on state records. This result is 85.6% more than in the first quarter of last year.

According to the results of the first spring month, sales of new cars amounted to 150,640 units, this figure is 102% higher than that recorded in March 2023. According to Autostat, most of the top ten brands in the Russian Federation remained the same: Lada (39,908 units), Haval (16,045 units), Geely (15,004 units), Chery (13,159 units) are still listed here .), Changan (9330 units), Exeed (4664 units), Omoda (4632 units) and Li Xiang/Li Auto (3617 units). The list of the most popular brands in March 2024 included a couple of “fresh” representatives: the Belarusian brand Belgee (2,732 units) was in ninth place, and the Chinese Jetour (2,616 units), which is part of Chery’s extensive portfolio, closes the top ten.

The top ten models also underwent some changes last month, although they did not affect the top three. The list is still topped by the Lada Granta (18,727 units), followed by the Lada Vesta (11,155 units), and the “bronze” by Haval Jolion (6,387 units). The Lada Niva Travel SUV (5,213 units) moved to fourth place, and the Geely Monjaro (5,175 units) now closes the top five. In sixth place last month was Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max (5151 units), followed by Lada Niva Legend (4772 units), and Omoda C5 (3761 units) in eighth position. Tenth place was taken by Chery Tiggo 4 Pro (3241 units), and in ninth place is a newcomer — Haval M6 (3468 units).

According to AEB statistics, based on the results of the first quarter, the list of brands whose cars are sold in the Russian Federation officially or through alternative channels includes 23 brands. The list of newcomers included: the Chinese Jaecoo (owned by Chery, and was created specifically for export markets), the recently registered Russian brand Solaris (under which the former Kia Rio, Hyundai Solaris and Creta are now assembled at a plant in St. Petersburg), as well as the Wey brands and Ora, owned by the celestial concern Great Wall.
The TOP 25 most popular cars based on the results of the first quarter also included models that were not on the list in January-March 2023. So, in seventh place is the already mentioned Haval M6 crossover. Note that sales of this model in the Russian Federation started last summer. In 11th place is the Belgee X50 crossover (in AEB statistics it is recorded under the Geely brand): the model is a badge-engineered pre-reform Geely Coolray.

In 12th place is another newcomer — Jaecoo J7, sales of which in Russia began in September 2023 . The last five of the TOP 25 include four models that were not sold in the first quarter of the previous year. We are talking about the updated Geely Coolray SUV, the second generation GAC GS8, the Tank 500 frame SUV, as well as the new Geely Atlas, which launched in Russia at the beginning of this year.
The AEB Committee of Automobile Manufacturers, “based on based on the emerging trends in the market and taking into account the fact that there will be no significant negative changes,” today assumes that by the end of this year the Russian car market will reach or likely exceed the mark of 1.3 million new cars sold.
