The Chelyabinsk Regional Court sentenced Genrikh Uzyallo to 12 years in prison, accused of setting fire to relay cabinets. This was reported by Kommersant Chelyabinsk and 74.ru with reference to the regional department of the FSB and representatives of the court.
The first three years of Uzyallo, found guilty of sabotage and attempted sabotage, will have to spend in prison, and the remaining time in a maximum security colony. Along the way, 462 thousand rubles were collected from him in favor of Russian Railways.
The case was opened due to the arson of two cabinets at the 35th kilometer of the Churilovo section — Vostochny post in the Leninsky district of Chelyabinsk on the night of June 12, 2023. This resulted in a 50-minute delay for one freight train and took approximately 16 hours to restore the system.
Uzyallo’s arrest was announced a day later. At the court hearings it became known that the Chelyabinsk resident was 28 years old and that he was unemployed.
The FSB explained his actions by saying that the defendant was “a supporter of Ukrainian terrorist organization» and that he had «personal hatred for the authorities of the Russian Federation and a desire to suspend the supply of weapons for the needs of a special military operation.» According to the intelligence service, a week before the arson, on June 6, a “customer” contacted him via telegram and offered him money.
Uzyallo admitted guilt in arson, but spoke in court about the “pressure” of investigators. “Yes, I set fire to the cabinets for a monetary reward, but I did not imagine that this would pose a danger to the defense capability of our country,” he said in court. “They took a sincere confession from me under pressure.” His lawyer added: “My client has never opposed the special operation.”
