The expert commented on Japan's ban on the export of pipes for gas pipelines

MOSCOW, April 3 Thanks to the construction of large highways, Russia has long achieved import substitution of pipes for gas and oil pipelines, a Fund analyst commented on Japan’s ban on their export to the Russian Federation national energy security Igor Yushkov.
Japan is introducing a ban on the export of 164 types of goods to Russia, including motor oil, pipes for gas and oil pipelines, and lithium-ion batteries, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Industry and Trade reported. The restrictions, with some exceptions, will come into force on April 17.
“»If we are talking about pipes for gas and oil pipelines, Russia now does everything on its own, and in this regard, as far as I know, it does not import anything from Japan, especially if we are talking about some main gas pipelines, oil pipelines» , said Yushkov.
He noted that in Soviet times, pipelines were purchased in European countries and Japan, but now the entire range of pipes — both for oil and gas pipelines — is produced in Russia.

«From the point of view of the supply of pipes, here we definitely had complete import substitution quite a long time ago, just when those same gas and oil pipelines were being built: both the ESPO and the connections to the Nord Streams,» and to South Stream… These huge gas and oil pipelines gave orders to the pipe makers. The pipe makers earned money, were able to modernize their enterprises and produce the entire range of pipes,» the expert concluded.
