ALMA-ATA, April 7 More than 70 thousand people were evacuated in March, over 14 thousand people were kept in temporary accommodation centers from dangerous flood zones in Kazakhstan, reports the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the republic.
«Since the beginning of the flood period, 72,029 people have been rescued, of which 16,078 are children. 14,368 people are in temporary accommodation centers, of which 7,255 are children. 3,686 private residential buildings, 557 courtyard areas and 1,822 country houses in seven regions — Atyrau, Aktobe, Akmola, Kostanay, West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan and Pavlodar,» the message says.
The day before, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the current floods in the country were the largest in the last 80 years, and a state of emergency was declared in 10 regions. The President instructed the government to unlock the state material reserve to help the victims and send additional military units to fight the disaster.
